FAQs

How long does surgery take?
You can expect your entire procedure, including recovery, to be less than 3 hours. Surgery time can vary case to case, on average surgery lasts between 1.5-2.5 hours. Sometimes cases are faster, and others require more time depending on the case.
Broken teeth or prosthetics are replaced as soon as possible depending on the availability of our doctors and laboratory. Typically, broken teeth can be replaced within 24 hours.
The dental implants are medical grade titanium alloy, like that used in orthopaedic and craniofacial surgery.
This procedure can be found at lower price points in the United States. The pricing at Indiana Implant Institute is very consistent with the national average for dental specialists. Lower costs at other offices are usually less for a variety of reasons, including: the use of lower quality implants and materials, the lack of digital integration in the treatment, the procedure is performed by general dentists not surgeons and prosthodontists, or the procedure is performed by an inexperienced provider. Foreign pricing may vary but there is no standard of care or quality assurance with this procedure out of the United States. Furthermore, many specialists in the US will not see patients who have had All-on-X performed outside of the country.
We offer full digital integration which cannot be found in any other practice within NWI or the greater Chicagoland area. Our procedures are performed SOLELY by specialists, including oral & maxillofacial surgeons and a maxillofacial prosthodontist. No other office or general dental provider can offer the same level of care and expertise. We also perform vastly more full-arch surgery than any other local dental office or implant center.
Dr. Surber has been performing oral & maxillofacial surgery exclusively since 2013 and does more full-arch surgery than any other oral surgeon, or dental provider, in the state of Indiana.
Pain medications may vary patient to patient; but the typical course of medication after surgery includes anti-inflammatories, Tylenol, and a prescription opioid medication such as Norco or Percocet. Your exact regimen will be tailored by your surgeon depending on your case, and other medications.
You begin using your prescription mouthwash 24 hours after surgery. Beginning 2 weeks after surgery we will provide a manual syringe to help with irrigation at home. One month after surgery it is safe to use your electronic water pik.
All the sutures we place are resorbable and dissolve in approximately 7-10 days on average, but this time may vary from person to person. In some cases, we place sutures that take 2-3 weeks to dissolve but this is not routine and if so, we will advise you after surgery. It is rare to have sutures that do not dissolve but they may be necessary for a particular case.
Implants that are properly placed, well maintained and appropriately managed can last for decades. Nothing in medicine or dentistry is guaranteed for life or “forever” but most patients receiving dental implants use them for the rest of their lives. Implants can require maintenance or additional procedures from time to time and bad habits (smoking, improper care, lack of follow-up, etc.) can lead to implant problems and loss which may result in additional procedures and costs.
